1
Validate the location
The five-digit ZIP code is validated for one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C. If more than one recognized city name is associated with that ZIP, the questionnaire requires the homeowner to choose the correct city before continuing; otherwise the single city is assigned automatically. The selected city, state and approximate ZIP coordinates are stored without asking for a street address.
2
Assign the official climate zone
The ZIP is matched to county-based International Energy Conservation Code climate-zone data published by the U.S. Department of Energy and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Zones 1–8 describe temperature bands; A, B and C describe moist, dry and marine regimes where applicable.
3
Apply deterministic rules
A maintained rule table decides which climate-sensitive questions to show and adjusts starting dates for freeze preparation, cooling, irrigation, moisture control and similar seasonal work. The questionnaire then adds tasks only for systems the homeowner says are present.
4
Keep the homeowner in control
Every suggested task, date and frequency can be reviewed and changed. Equipment manuals, installation details, elevation, microclimate, actual conditions, local codes and qualified professional findings take priority whenever they differ from a general rule.
Weather-aware home alerts.
Optional alerts use active National Weather Service data associated with the saved ZIP area's approximate location and NWS forecast zones. Supported home-care categories include freeze, winter storm, flood, hail, heat, wind, tropical weather and wildfire or fire-weather conditions. An official alert can cover a broad area and does not prove the home experienced the same conditions as every other location in that area. These emails are supplemental property-care prompts, never emergency warnings.

1
Claimed HomePlanza profiles
A free public profile appears only after a business claim or update is reviewed. The nationwide launch starts without imported regional profiles.
2
Featured advertising
Eligible paid placements are separate and labeled ADVERTISEMENT. Publishing requires an active record plus the intended service and U.S. coverage.
3
Live Google Places results
Public business information is requested from Google Places at search time for the selected service and location. Those results are shown in their own group and are not copied into the HomePlanza public directory.
4
Homeowner verification
No result group is a guarantee or endorsement. Confirm business identity, current service area, licensing or registration where applicable, insurance, written scope, pricing and warranty before hiring.
Professional provider preferences.
Professionals with an active client-plan account can enter providers manually or use Google Places to prefill public business details, then review and explicitly save private contacts they trust. They can select up to three recommendations for each matching maintenance reminder or supported weather-alert type while finalizing a client plan. These contacts do not require a public profile, do not change public rankings and do not become paid endorsements. When none is selected, the ordinary nationwide local-help section can show eligible HomePlanza profiles and a live provider-search link.
Nationwide location handling.
Search accepts a five-digit U.S. ZIP code or a city and state. ZIP-only searches can infer the state for eligible HomePlanza placement coverage, while Google Places handles the live local lookup. Search location does not change a home's climate classification or maintenance schedule.
